Chirpy, upbeat and downright nonsensical

IF you are looking for the one song released this year that is chirpy, upbeat and downright nonsensical then this is it! For ‘Me and My Mate’ is ridiculous, yet absolutely brilliant from start to end.

Something completely different from The Verve

JUST when you thought hit single 'Love Is Blind' had lived well past its use by date after being rotated on countless radios stations and music channels, The Verve follow it up with something completely different.

Catchy chorus will sit in your head for days

Lemar has gone all soulful on us - and it actually sounds pretty decent! ‘If She Knew’ is by far his finest work to date as he ditches his poppy sound in favour of a deeper, soulful rhythm. Already rotating on numerous radio stations, his gentle vocals complement an upbeat, R ’n B backdrop.

Something is missing but I am not sure what

NICK is back with another ska, sing-a-long anthem to brighten up your day but when you compare with his previous offering, ‘Oi, rude boy,’ there’s actually not much to write home about. To do that, would be a little fair however as Harrison’s previous single was something if a class apart.

Song that is a bit of a grower

IMAGINE my delight receiving this release in the post to review. One of the greatest rock bands around today whose music will live on for generations but I must admit, at first listen, I was a little perplexed. For they have changed somewhat to the classic rock sound we are all used to as a nation.

Well and truly back to their best

IT’S official! The Streets are well and truly back to their best. ‘Heaven For The Weather’ is a fine recording, the quality of which even beats that of his huge hit ‘Dry Your Eyes,’ which first introduced the world to Mike Skinner.

Chilli Gold are hot stuff!

ONE word springs to mind when you hear this single - Eurovision! For Chilli Gold’s country-pop sound echoes that of foreign Eurovision entries - the ones you don’t necessarily hate but can’t quite be bothered to pick up the phone and vote for.

Down hill after the cover

THE best thing about this latest offering from Smudge is definitely the cover which depicts a man leaping above a city, guitar in hand with a tiger’s head, screaming the title of the single.

Softer approach to rock...unfortunately

WITH a name like Sick City Club, I half expected this to be a screamo band full of guitar licks and pounding drums. What it is in fact is a softer approach to rock and another murky Indie record, the likes of which are enjoying such popularity currently.

An upbeat and almost flippant offering

LET’S be honest - every male goes through a stage where they wish they were James Bond? Well Scouting For Girls have gone one step further and written a song about it and whilst Jack White and Alicia Keys perform the new official Bond song, this is far, far better.

Futuristic mix which is difficult to categorise

WE'RE off to the future with Viva Machine: ‘Put your hands where I can see them/As I turn down the dial/To the future we’ll go/And we’ll get there in style.’

Quite simple flawless

EVEN at the ripe old age of 68 Tom Jones has still got it! ‘If He Should Ever Leave You’ is just what you would expect from the legendary Welsh wonder - powerful, moving, intimate, personal - quite simply flawless!
