THIS is not for everyone as Zoo create a very niche audience, churning out a hardcore jazz sound with limited appeal. This is what they are all about though and they craft their sound well using all manner of instruments to create jazz not heard since Ella Fitzgerald.
FROM the first note on album opener ‘Accelerate’ right through to the final note on ‘International Poster campaign,’ you would be forgiven for thinking you were listening to Blur, such are the similarities between the two bands. For the vocalist sounds just like a younger Damien Albarn, ideal for a new generation.
THIS is punk in every way you can imagine. Smoky guitar riffs, emotionless vocals, no distortion and a repetitive, almost monotonous drumbeat make for a sound that instantly brings to mind such groups as the Buzzcocks and Morrisey.
THERE are just not enough music acts around today that combine both ma and female vocals, which is a real shame as the two can compliment each other perfectly when pitched together.
MORE than 40 years in the making, 62 career - spanning tracks and well over three hours of Move magnificence on one superbly remastered 4 CD box-set: this really is a Move fan’s dream! Not only does it include the massive hit ‘Blackberry Way,’ but also previously unreleased material like ‘A Certain Something’ all in one place!
IT is little surprise that Barkerhound are currently without a label and just too hard to see them finding one judging on this woeful effort.
For Barkerhound would be much better off packing up and going back to college.
THE problem with modern metal is that there are so many average groups out there that you very rarely find one with supreme talent who are masters of the trade and a real force to be reckoned with - Black Tide perfectly fit this description, a small wonder considering their vocalist is just 15!
The members of Anberlin are the spitting image of mature rockers and when seeing them for the first time, you automatically think of such established groups as U2 and Bon Jovi.
OPERAHOUSE build on a genre that has enjoyed unexpected success over the past year. Indie music with an overcoat of whiny, yet melodic vocals are what Coldplay, Moby and other similar artists have drawn their success from - and now you can add Operahouse to the name of modern, successful, alternative bands.
BOYS Like Girls are incredibly hard to categorise as a band. Their songs are built around huge, poppy choruses whilst verse is sung to a melody of guitar notes but it is the vocals that are difficult to pinpoint.
A quick glance at the album sleeve for ‘You And I’ and on top of instantly smiling at the band’s name, you would be forgiven for thinking that this was some kind of dance record, blurred colours forming the background to a sleeve just depicting the group’s name and album title.
JOHN Barrowman really is a Jack of all trades. A fine actor, talent show judge and, as he shows in Music, Music, Music - a damn fine singer also.
