Knocking records for 6

Record A RECORD attempt at organising the World’s Biggest Synchronised Cricket Game is being staged in the West Midlands to support Acorns Children's Hospice care.
The world record attempt will see a host of 25-minute games of cricket taking place between 1-3pm on 26 June, in school fields, playgrounds and school halls and organisations throughout the West Midlands.

Jon D’Arcy, and Mark Gamsby, of Wythall, Birmingham, are organising the ‘stroke of genius’ to help Acorns Children’s Hospice, and hope to encourage children and adults to raise lots of funds and awareness for the local children’s charity.
Participating schools, groups and organizations can also choose a charity or school of their choice to support.

The event is set to be a cricket first, based around the World’s Biggest Synchronised Football Game played on December 6 last year www.worldgame.org. The WBG team encouraged organisers to develop it to benefit schools and charity.
Sanjay Jagatia, Fundraising Officer for Acorns, said: “This is a real ‘stroke of genius’. It’s an exciting way of bringing young people together across the West Midlands in support of care for life limited children and families who rely on Acorns services.”
The cricket game will help to support the Acorns Fragile Lives Appeal, that was launched to see the local charity through the current recession, and protect its vital nursing care and support services for many years to come.

Acorns offers specialist nursing care and support to children who have life limiting and life threatening conditions, and their families living in the West Midlands. Acorns services provide a lifeline for local families who would face a tough challenge coping alone.

The majority of Acorns’ income comes from donations. The Fragile Lives Appeal offers the chance for everyone to get involved. Volunteers help in Acorns retail shops, give talks, organise collections and events. To support the appeal visit: www.acorns.org.uk or email: fragilelives@acorns.org.uk To make a donation call: 01564 825000.

A car wash to support Acorns is also being staged by the Wythall cricket team on Sunday (14) 12 noon – 4pm at the Horse and Jockey, Alcester Road, Wythall. Supporters can email worldbscg@yahoo.co.uk with queries or suggestions for contacts to help us further, or call World’s Biggest Synchronised Cricket Game organizers Jon D’Arcy on 07922550856 or Mark Gamsby on 07523687086.
