Help at hand to conquer phobia

HOW many times have you climbed a ladder only to find that once you are at the top you cannot look down? Well help may be on hand as a Birmingham-based phobia consultant has launched a new project to help people across the West Midlands overcome their fear of heights.

Andy Duncan, dubbed ‘The Fear Master,’ by many, is an ex-Royal Marine training instructor who recently began a phobia business to help people of all ages overcome the fears and phobias, which prevent them from realising their ambitions. His latest project will see Andy coaching men and women from across the region on how to overcome their uncontrollable fear of heights.

He explained: “So many people are scared of heights and suffer in silence when it can be so easily overcome. I have worked with people all over the world to overcome their crippling phobias so I have learnt that absolutely every fear is curable. As babies we are born with just hard-wired fears; the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises.

"Every other fear or phobia is picked up as we get older or learnt form our parents. So the simple truth is that any fear we have learnt along the way can just as easily be un-learnt if you know how.” Andy uses a combination of Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), hypnosis and one-to-one counselling to identify the route cause of the fear and eliminate it forever.

He continued: “A fear of heights is one of the most common fears o the UK and one that can be easily overcome. Although this fear does not affect everyone in the same way it can mean that simple things like flying abroad for a holiday or working in a tall building are not possible for many people.”

Andy uses his no-nonsense approach to life developed while helping Royal Marines to deal with their very real phobias to help people overcome the fears standing in their way every day.
